Couples Therapy
Grounded in spirituality, rooted in emotion
A union of souls
It usually starts small. A text left unanswered. A tone at the dinner table. One of you says "you never listen," the other goes quiet, and by the end of the night you're both hurt and neither of you can say why.
Most couples who come to see me aren't really fighting about the dishes, the in-laws, or the money. They're stuck in a loop, and underneath it is a question they're both too tired or too proud to ask out loud: Are you there for me? Do I still matter to you?
I use Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), which is built around exactly that question. We slow the loop down, find where it starts, and get clear on what each of you is protecting. Then comes the harder, more tender part: saying the softer thing that sits under the anger or the silence, and hearing your partner say theirs. Couples who have rehearsed the same fight for years start reaching for each other instead. The fights lose their hold because you're no longer up against each other. You're up against the pattern.
As a clinician trained in Islamically integrated therapy, I believe that a marriage is not just a unification of minds or bodies, but a union of souls. If desired, we can integrate religion and spirituality directly into the work. As one of my teachers once told me, as each partner gets closer to God, they get closer to one another.
